Our Parish / Services / Baptisms

Baptisms

In baptism, we thank God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledge his love. In the Anglican Church it is common to baptise young children; this is sometimes known as christening. Young people and adults seeking baptism are encouraged to consider confirmation to complete their act of commitment.

Baptism is a 'sacrament' (holy ritual to symbolise grace) in the Christian tradition that is traced back to Jesus himself being baptized in the river Jordan.

Anyone living in the parish, or who attends church regularly, is eligible to be baptised (or to have their children baptised) in their parish church. We have an open baptism policy; we see the birth of a baby as a time for profound thanksgiving. It is also an opportunity for parents and godparents to think deeply about the most important questions in life - the origin and fulfilment of love which is the very nature of God.

Parents and godparents need with integrity to be able to make the promises within the baptism service.

Baptisms usually take place on a Sunday or Saturday.

All enquiries about baptisms should be directed to the Rector, Peter Seal.
